Alaska Native Heritage Center Honored As "Best Cultural Heritage Experience" By Tourism Association
The American Indian/Alaska Native Tourism Association awarded the Alaska Native Heritage Center recognition for its cultural displays. The Heritage Center celebrates 11 different Native Alaskan cultures.
The Center was given the "Best Cultural Heritage Experience" award, honoring traditions and values.
There are not many places in Alaska where people can learn about Alaska Native culture, even though there are 86,000 Alaska Natives in the state, and travelers are very interested in Alaska life.
Another remarkable facility where visitors can meet local Alaskans is the Morris Thompson Cultural Center in Fairbanks. This well-designed building has displays of past and present Native life in the Interior. Other locations along the roads of Alaska include the Ahtna Cultural Center in Copper Center, and the K'Beq complex in Cooper Landing.
