Alaskans Really Love The Great Outdoors, Says University Report

The University of Alaska's 2019 Center for Economic Development tourism report says that Alaska has the highest rate of participation in outdoor recreation in the U.S. and that people spend almost $3.2 billion in Alaska every year on outdoor recreation.

Although around 50% of all Americans spend time playing outdoors, recreation is a must for 81% of Alaskans. In fact, almost 60% of us say that outdoor activities are a major reason for living here in the first place.

Expanded Tourism: Seward Facilities

Looking To Expand Cruise Ship Facilities In Seward, Alaska Railroad Seeks Partner

The Alaska Railroad put out a "request for qualifications" in September for a project developer to help with cruise ship facility expansion in Seward.

The railroad is planning to replace its 736 foot long dock, built in 1966. It wants to start construction in 2021 on a project costing $60 to $70 million. The plan is to have a floating dock, able to hold two of the newer, larger ships. There's also a plan for a new passenger terminal building capable of holding up to 1,500 passengers.
